Apr 27, 2012· Hi, I'm a grad student with some basic machining experience, and I'm starting a project that requires some pieces to be machined out of OFHC copper (it has to be the high purity stuff for the best thermal conductivity and the fewest magnetic impurities) on both the lathe and mill.

It flows nearly as much as it cuts. You could make a threading pass and sometimes it would actually INCREASE the outer diameter, as the metal flowed around the tool.
